Scientists asked 72 men, ranging in age from 23 to 80, to tap their index fingers as fast as they could for 10 seconds. The researchers also did brain scans to measure in each subject the amount of myelin – a fatty sheath of insulation that coats nerve axons and allows for signaling bursts in our brains.

Both the tapping speed and the amount of myelin was found to decline “with an accelerating trajectory” after age 39.

Study leader George Bartzokis, professor of psychiatry at UCLA, called the results “pretty striking” and said: “That may well be why, besides achy joints and arthritis, even the fittest athletes retire and all older people move slower than they did when they were younger.”

The myelination of brain circuits was known to peak in middle age. Bartzokis and others have long argued that brain aging might be primarily related to the myelin breakdown.

Learning more about this decline in fine-motor-skills speed offers some hope for treating the aging brain.

“Since in healthy individuals brain myelin breakdown begins to occur in middle age, there is a decades-long period during which therapeutic interventions could alter the course of brain aging and possibly delay age-driven degenerative brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s,” Bartzokis said.

The findings are detailed in the online version of the journal Neurobiology of Aging.

When accounting for median household income, a house in Dallas, for example–with a median price of about $150,000–is four times more affordable than a house in Los Angeles, the worst-ranked city on our list.

A house in New York is three times less affordable than in Charlotte, N.C., and four times less than in Denver, two cities where your money goes far and where the median house costs $245,000, according to the National Association of Realtors.

Housing has remained affordable in the South and Midwest, thanks to growing populations, relatively lax building regulations and “lots and lots of land,” said Daniel McCue, a research analyst at Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies. [more]

AP Meltdown in US finance system pummels stock market

NEW YORK – The upheaval in the American financial system sent shock waves through the stock market Monday, producing the worst day on Wall Street in seven years as investors digested the failure of one of its most venerable banks and wondered which domino would be next to fall.

That is the news that I read just now… the economy is in bad shape… lots of people have hard time… and I think it will continue for a while before it bounce back…

A sad story – Is everyone having money problem like me?

A sad story to share…

Hmmm… sometimes when we have money problem… thing can become just difficult. lots of thing that used to be easy become difficult, things that is cheap become hardly affordable and the list went on and on.

That is me at the moment, even my income is somehow higher compared to last year, but many things just went wrong and many of my project didn’t perform as expected. I lost lots of money and my debt somehow become out of control. I still earn my salary from my day to day jobs but seem like thing can get worse!

One of my credit card company have sent letter informing me that they are going to sue me if I din’t pay them in full, and yesterday I received a letter from the second bank.

To make things worst, the loan that I make for my project will be due in october and I still need to save some money to pay for this.

Things didn’t stop there, due to some family matters, I also need few grant for my family…

I don’t know about other people, but for me… the situation sometimes make me sad.

Today I saw some news about the bankcruptcy of some big companies and the share market have drops drastically in many places. is the thing will become worst? I have no idea. i will try to survive and hopefully I can.

These couple have been married for quite sometimes. Now they arleady have three children. So sex is nothing new to them.They are two humble persons, as straight as school rullers.

So, one day the wife told her husband. “I think I am pregnant again. This weekend I am going to see a doctor.”

“Yes! Thanks goodness! Thanks to you! Wow! I am going to be a father for the 4th time”! He kissed his wife on the cheek. Hemm! Good man!

His wife was so surprised that he seemed too happy this time around.

“Darling”, said the wife, “Whats with you, you seem extra happy just like you did long time ago when we had our 1st baby”.
